Citrus County is a county in the U.S. state of Florida. Located on the western side of the Florida Peninsula, Citrus County used to be a part of Hernando County. As of 2010 the population was 141,236. The largest city in the county is Homosassa Springs, while the Citrus County seat is Inverness. other cities within the county include Crystal River, Beverly Hills, Citrus Springs and Pineola. Adjacent counties include Levy to the northwest, Hernando to the south, Sumter to the east and Marion to the northeast. Citrus County is served by Crystal River Airport and Inverness Airport as well as several major highways and roads, including US Route 19, 41 and 98. Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park and many coastal islands are owned by the state.
